Abstract

Calbindin-D9k(CaBP-9k) is a cytosolic binding protein mainly expressed in duodenum, placenta and uterus. The placenta is involved in the transfer of calcium for mineralization of the fetal skeleton. Regulatory mechanism of placental CaBP-9k expression remains unknown. The cellular localization of the mRNA encoding CaBP-9k in mouse placental was investigated by in situ hybridization technique. Using [^(35)S]cRNA probe under high stringency conditions, specific mRNA was found in visceral and intraplacental yolk sac. In situ histochemistry with cRNA probe allows the precise identification of cells expressing CaBP-9k in placenta and offers a possibility to study its regulation and function.
